Home Operations and Support Outsourcing

The Formation of a New Partnership
Simply defined, ‘Outsourcing’ is the transfer of a business process to an outside provider / supplier.  Typically, the business process outsourced is not a core competency and historically has consisted of processes such as information technology, accounting / payroll, human resources, and facilities management.  More recently we have also seen customer service, help desk, and call center processes outsourced.  The essential element in a successful outsourcing arrangement is the recognition, by both parties, of the existence of a shared management control and decision making environment between the client and the outsourcer over the function outsourced.  Outsourcing is the formation of a new partnership. Does your new prospective business partner, the outsourcer, have the same company culture, strategic and tactical orientation that your company possesses?  Will they be working to attain the same objectives as you?

“If you want something done right, do it yourself.  But if you want something done right for less money, outsourcing may be the way to go.   Companies have for years been catching on to the value of outsourcing business processes such as benefits-administration, billing, payroll, training, logistics-management, and human resources functions.”

“Outsourcing helps companies to deploy resources more flexibility, allowing them to divest or acquire capabilities with relative ease.  And businesses are now exploring outsourcing as a means to achieve strategic goals, such as expanding into new markets or opening fresh distribution channels.”

“Outsourcing wedged its foot in the door as a cost-cutting measure, but it’s increasingly viewed as a strategic planning and business outcomes tool, a consulting firm says.  According to an Accenture survey or more than 800 executives in the United States and Europe, cost savings are still a key outsourcing benefit, but the additional business controls generated by outsourcing are driving the trend to external providers.  The most frequently cited improvements included better ability to plan, higher levels of operational reliability, and more rapid implementation of new strategies and initiatives.”
